Breeding requirements in Switzerland

Switzerland has breeding regulations for Afghan Hounds. If you are interested, you can find the complete regulations here.

I would like to highlight a few important points here:

  • Each breeding site is checked by the responsible section before kennel registration with the FCI (size, species-appropriate keeping, environment in which the puppies grow up, etc.)
  • Every breeding dog must pass a breeding licence test. This consists of the so-called conformation test, which checks whether the dog meets the breed standard, and a character test. Only if the dog passes both tests is it allowed to breed in Switzerland. Unfortunately, this test is not mandatory in all countries.
  • A diary must be kept of the bitch's well-being during pregnancy and lactation.
  • To control the growth of the puppies, each puppy must be weighed daily and the weight recorded.
  • The responsible section of the SKG (Swiss Cynological Society) carries out a litter control in the breeding facility. Each puppy is examined individually and the weight records and the bitch's diary are checked.
  • Only after a successful litter control can the FCI breeding papers be applied for the puppies.
  • After the sale of the puppies, we are obliged to assist the buyers with advice and support.

We are very happy with this regulation and believe that it should be the case for all breeders worldwide.
