Our daily life with our 4 Afghan Hounds
In the house
All our dogs live with us in the house. We enjoy living with our dogs because the Afghan Hound always seeks family contact, adapts and behaves very quietly in the house. Even with 3 young Afghan Hounds, there are no parties. Sometimes, a youngster stands on the table - but so what ;)
They do like to lie on the sofa, so we always have to make sure that we get a place too, but they are not offended when we push them off.
A tummy rub is always welcome. Our Afghan Hounds communicate with us. They let us know when they are hungry or thirsty, when they have to go wee or want to be petted.
When out walking,
dog encounters, cyclists, joggers and walkers are not a problem. Only when it comes to cats do the necks get extremely long and it takes some restraint to keep from pouncing. But they can learn that too. We also walk alone with all 4 dogs without any major incidents.
Our dogs are easy to recall, but we still have to pay close attention to where we let all four run together. Since the Afghan Hound is a sprinter that can quickly cover great distances, it is necessary to have very good dog training and knowledge of the terrain.
At dog training
We recommend that everyone visit a normal dog training school with their Afghan Hound. This not only serves to socialise, but also to discover the talents of the respective dog. Afghan Hounds are very versatile and have different talents - as is common with other dog breeds. There are Afghan Hounds that are suitable for agility, obedience, man trailing and other dog sports.
Not every Afghan Hound is automatically suited to the dog track or dog shows, but they are always suitable as family companion dogs.
Our Afghan Hounds always have a lot of fun at dog training and take part enthusiastically.
In the restaurant
We go to a restaurant with our Afghan Hounds. Our dogs have learnt that they have to lie down in the restaurant and that other dogs are taboo. This works without any problems.

During the holidays
We usually travel in our camper van and are always welcome at campsites, as Afghan Hounds are always a highlight.
Afghan Hounds are calm and friendly. They love to romp around on the beach!
It is also not a problem to get a room with them in most hotels, as they hardly shed any hair and are almost odourless.
On the road
Whether it's by TukTuk, train, boat or bus – no problem for our dogs. They are always enthusiastic about it.
The TukTuk driver in Lisbon had so much fun with our dogs that he invited us to join him in his TukTuk.
